About Peter Laurent
Peter Laurent was born in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand and is the founder of leading e-business strategy consulting firm Brisbane Consulting, he is the great grandson of Lieutenant Colonel Harry Laurent VC.
Early Life
Peter’s family left Hawkes Bay in 1989 when he was a young child and lived in Wide Bay and Brisbane in Queensland before settling in Toowoomba, QLD. Peter attended the Toowoomba Grammar School on an athletic scholarship and represented Queensland in basketball. At the start of grade 11 Peter moved to Brisbane with his family too pursue his Basketball career and attended Brisbane Boy’s College and John Paul College where he was a member of their 3rd national championship winning team, completing years 11 and 12 under a special athletic program.
Post high school after unsuccessfully rehabilitating a severe ankle injury Peter retired from competitive basketball and entered university at QUT where he studied Business majoring in Management & Human Resources.
Business Career
Peter created his first web page when he was 15, started his first business aged 18 and his first company at 19. In February 2009, Peter renamed his company Brisbane Consulting Pty Ltd. As an advocate of the use of the internet as a tool for redefining business models and freely sharing information Peter has conducted extensive research on disintermediation and how the internet impacts strategy of companies in industries such as telecommunications, film & television, media, travel, real estate, services, software, retail and publishing. Peter encourages company’s too embrace the internet and look at long term strategies for building lasting advantage in the information age.
Personal Life
In his free time Peter enjoying keeping fit, traveling and reading. He collects New Zealand wines and one day looks forward to retiring to his own vineyard!
